This page shows high-resolution (1km scale) rainfall radar images at 5-minute intervals overlaid onto a map of the British Isles. Light rainfall is shown as blue or green shading, moderate rainfall as orange and heavy rainfall or thunderstorms are usually shaded red.
Thunderstorm data can also be included by toggling the 'lightning icon' on the map. A more advanced version of our lightning tracker can be found here.

How Rainfall Radar Works
Our weather radar composite operates 24 hours a day and is currently composed of a total of 18 weather radars, 15 of which are operated and maintained by the Met Office in Exeter.
Each radar site provides data out to 255km, completing a series of scans about the vertical axis at different elevation angles every five minutes.
